Repair, Refurbish & Turnaround Grinding Services
Whether you’re managing a planned refinery turnaround or responding to an unexpected equipment failure, our six-machine vertical grinder fleet, large-capacity surface grinders, and experienced team provide the grinding capacity and technical knowledge to get your equipment back in service — fast.
Valve Refurbishment Grinding
Worn sealing surfaces, damaged gate faces, corroded body bores, and pitted flange faces can all be restored to service through precision grinding — at a fraction of valve replacement cost.
Valve Surfaces Commonly Refurbished
- Seat Faces: Corrosion, erosion, and wear pit and score valve seat faces. Surface grinding restores flatness and proper sealing finish.
- Gate and Disc Faces: Metal-to-metal sealing surfaces develop pitting and scoring. Grinding restores flatness and surface finish for leak-tight shutoff.
- Body Bores: Corrosion and mechanical damage score valve body bores. ID grinding restores proper bore geometry.
- Flange Faces: Gasket leakage from flange face damage is corrected by surface grinding restoring flatness and finish.
- Backseat Surfaces: Worn backseat surfaces cause packing leakage. Grinding restores proper contact between stem backseat and bonnet.
Industrial Equipment Refurbishment
- Pump/compressor shaft bearing journals restored to specified diameter and finish
- Housing bores ground to restore bearing fits; seal surfaces refurbished
- Heat exchanger and pressure vessel flange face grinding
- Machine tool way and slide surface grinding for flatness restoration
- Die and tooling refurbishment
Planned Turnaround Support
When facilities schedule a shutdown, we work with your maintenance team well in advance to ensure grinding operations don’t become the bottleneck in your turnaround schedule.
Pre-Turnaround Planning
- Advance review of components requiring grinding
- Capacity reservation for turnaround work
- Process planning and timeline development aligned with shutdown schedule
During Turnaround
- Priority processing with extended hours
- Direct communication with maintenance team and progress updates
- Expedited delivery of completed components
Repair vs. Replacement
Repair is typically the right choice when:
- Surface damage is the primary issue (not structural failure)
- Adequate material remains for grinding
- Grinding cost is significantly less than replacement
- Replacement lead time exceeds machining & grinding turnaround
- Component is obsolete or in critical service
Replacement may be more appropriate when:
- Structural damage exists (cracks, severe corrosion penetration)
- Insufficient material remains for grinding to achieve specifications
- Multiple repairs have already reduced material to minimum allowable
FAQs for Repair and Turnaround Grinding
How quickly can you turn around emergency valve grinding?
For most valve body grinding, emergency turnaround of 2-5 business days is achievable. Rush situations requiring same-day or next-day completion should be discussed directly — call us immediately.
Do you coordinate with valve repair facilities for complete valve overhaul?
Yes. Our sister company United Valve performs complete valve repair and refurbishment. We grind the valve body components, and United Valve handles disassembly, inspection, parts, reassembly, and testing.
Do you provide documentation for turnaround records?
Yes. We provide inspection reports with dimensional data before and after grinding, surface finish measurements, and photographs of completed work for your maintenance records.
Can you pick up components directly from our facility?
Yes, for customers in our Gulf Coast service area, we offer pickup and delivery coordination for turnaround and repair work.
